Dr. Mayank Tyagi - Petroleum Engineering

Prof. Mayank Tyagi is Chevron #3 designated associate professor at the Craft & Hawkins department of petroleum engineering, Louisiana State University (LSU). He also holds a joint faculty appointment at the Center for Computation & Technology (CCT), LSU since 2007. He obtained his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from LSU and undergraduate in mechanical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur. His current research interests span across high performance computing (HPC) and data analytics for interdisciplinary petroleum engineering applications, image-based pore-scale modeling using lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), multiscale multiphase computational fluid dynamics (CFD), geothermal reservoir engineering, and unconventional reservoir simulations. He has also worked on the issues in the quantitative risk assessment (QRA) of offshore petroleum engineering operations and their impacts on regional economy. He has given numerous invited talks at India, China, and several US universities and published over forty (40) peer-reviewed technical publications. He is an active member of university-industry consortium “Enabling Process Innovation through Computation (EPIC)” at LSU.

Dr. Michael Malisoff - Mathematics
Roy Paul Daniels Professor- LSU

Michael Malisoff received his PhD in 2000 from the Department of Mathematics at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. In 2001, he joined the faculty of the Department of Mathematics at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge (LSU), where he is now the Roy Paul Daniels Professor #3 in the LSU College of Science. His main research has been on controller design and analysis for nonlinear control systems with time delays and uncertainty and their applications in engineering. His more than 100 publications include a Springer monograph on constructive Lyapunov methods. His awards include the First Place Student Best Paper Award at the 1999 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, two three-year National Science Foundation Mathematical Sciences Priority Area grants, and 9 Best Presentation awards in American Control Conference sessions. He is an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control and for SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization.

Derek Staal - Petroleum Engineering Student

Derek is a 31 year old, former Commercial Diver from Washington State. Upon completion of dive school, in Seattle, he drove down to Louisiana to work in the Gulf of Mexico. It's in the GOM that he accrued 6+ years experience in the offshore oil field.
His project responsibilities consist of the building, installation, and wiring control valves.

Daniel Schmidt - Petroleum Engineering Student

Daniel Schmidt is a Louisiana native from Shreveport. He worked a few years as a small engine repair mechanic and service manager before returning to school for engineering. Daniel has done research work on slug flow during an REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) at LSU. He has experience with CFD simulations, programming, and hands-on construction.

Mark Behl - Petroleum Engineering Student

Mark is a 33 year old former Marine from Wisconsin. At age 18, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, where
he served honorable as a working dog-handler for 10 years.

Jeffery McClung - Petroleum Engineering Student

Jeffery is 31 years old. He is currently working at ExxonMobil Refinery for Turner Specialty Services as a unit operator. He served honorably in the Marine Corp from the age of 17-25 as a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense Specialist.
